[html]MD 0712 CONCERNING SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 198... FOR PARTS OF THE TX PERMIAN BASIN AND BIG BEND REGIONS
Mesoscale Discussion 0712
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0618 PM CDT Tue May 10 2022
Areas affected...Parts of the TX Permian Basin and Big Bend regions
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 198...
Valid 102318Z - 110045Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 198
continues.
SUMMARY...A severe wind threat may spread into the Permian Basin
region this evening, while isolated supercells remain possible near
the Big Bend region.
DISCUSSION...An earlier potentially tornadic supercell has recently
evolved into a small bowing cluster across Pecos County, TX, where
Fort Stockton recently gusted to 56 kt. Strong instability and
modest deep-layer shear will continue to support some storm
organization, and a severe wind threat may spread northeastward into
the Permian Basin region. However, increasing downstream MLCINH
casts some uncertainty regarding the longevity of this cluster with
time.
Further south, slightly stronger deep-layer flow/shear is noted
toward the Big Bend region, in a region of strong buoyancy. Isolated
supercells will remain possible in this area for the next 1-2 hours,
before some decrease in thunderstorm coverage and intensity is
expected with the onset of nocturnal cooling/stabilization.
