Day 1 Convective Outlook

0800 PM CDT Sat May 07 2022
Valid 080100Z - 081200Z
...THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS
WESTERN/CENTRAL NE INTO CENTRAL SD...
...SUMMARY...
Scattered strong storms capable of large hail and locally damaging
wind will remain possible into late tonight across parts of South
Dakota and Nebraska.
...Parts of NE/SD...
Several clusters of strong thunderstorms are ongoing this evening
from north-central SD into southwest NE, with some embedded
supercells noted within these clusters. As these storms spread
eastward through mid-evening within a moderately sheared and
unstable environment, large hail and locally strong/severe wind
gusts will be possible.
Storms may tend to weaken across parts of SD later tonight, as they
move into a less unstable environment, but storms may persist longer
in Nebraska, where a strengthening low-level jet will help to
maintain moderate elevated buoyancy through the overnight hours. Any
semi-discrete storms late tonight within this regime will continue
to pose a threat of hail. Some upscale growth is expected as storms
move into central and eventually eastern NE overnight, which could
pose a threat of isolated strong/severe gusts, but increasing
low-level stability with eastward extent may mitigate the threat to
some extent.
