Mesoscale Discussion 0612
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0338 PM CDT Sun May 01 2022

Areas affected...Parts of southeast TX

Concerning...Severe potential...Watch unlikely

Valid 012038Z - 012245Z

Probability of Watch Issuance...5 percent

SUMMARY...Isolated large hail and locally strong gusts will be
possible across parts of southeast TX this afternoon. Watch issuance
will not be needed.

DISCUSSION...To the south of a northward lifting effective warm
front over southeast TX, a moist/well-mixed airmass characterized by
dewpoints in the lower 70s continues to spread northward. A subtle
E-W oriented differential mixing boundary associated with the
effective front has supported isolated convective development over
the last hour, and strong buoyancy (MLCAPE up to 2500 J/kg) should
continue to support this activity. RAP forecast soundings generally
show straight hodographs with effective bulk shear near 30 knots,
which will favor loosely organized splitting cells capable of
isolated large hail and perhaps locally strong gusts. Watch issuance
will not be needed owing to the localized nature of the threat.
