Deerhoof announce new album, tour dates, and single on Craigslist, natch

[html]In support of their upco*ing album, Deerhoof has taken to America's least discussed streaming music platform, Craigslist.

There’s no missed connection here: Deerhoof debuted the first single for their upco*ing album on Craigslist today. Through a series of Craigslist “Services” posts, advertising themselves for hire in local co*munities in Brooklyn, Tucson, Portland, Minneapolis, and more, the band released “Immigrant Songs” two days before the other streaming platforms. The post also featured photos of the album artwork and more information about their upco*ing 20th record.

We know what you’re thinking: Why Craigslist? We’re happy we asked. Deerhoof is using the single’s release to “spotlight a tech platform that isn’t blatantly supporting fascism.” It does seem telling that the band had to go back to what seems like the first tech platform to find one that wasn’t blatantly supporting fascism, but so it goes.

“This song is kind of a sequel to Satomi describing her immigration tribulations in ‘Exit Only.’ It’s what it feels like to see the discourse around immigration get so twisted. The most criminal and barbaric ‘migrant horde’ to invade America was from Europe,” said Deerhoof drummer Greg Saunier. “There’s a sector of racialized, underpaid immigrants, doing labor white people won’t, who are getting deported and dehumanized in record numbers in recent years. They are really the glue keeping our society from collapsing. It’s these heroic fugitives, not millionaire politicians holding little signs with one hand while sending out fundraising emails about ‘strengthening our borders’ with the other, who actually have a thing or two to teach us all about how to resist and survive.”

The album, Noble And Godlike In Ruin, hits stores and maybe Craigslist on April 25, 2025.
