What's on TV this week—Dark Winds, The Righteous Gemstones, Dope Thief

The biggies


Dark Winds (AMC, Sunday, 9 p.m.)



AMC’s hidden gem Dark Winds returns for season three with a new mystery for Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon) and Jim Chee (Kiowa Gordon) to solve. They investigate the vanishing of a teenager an deal with an FBI agent (Jenna Elfman) who has arrived in their Navajo Nation town. Meanwhile, Bernadette (Jessica Matten) strives to leave her mark as a Border Patrol officer. Look for The A.V. Club‘s premiere recap on Sunday night.




The Righteous Gemstones (HBO, Sunday, 10 p.m.)



The Gemstone clan is back for a fourth and final season, in which they’re sure to keep scamming their flock in ridiculous ways. The kids also try to bring their father, Eli (John Goodman), out of retirement. The ensemble features Adam DeVine, Edi Patterson, Walton Goggins, Danny McBride, Skyler Gisondo, Cassidy Freeman, Tim Baltz, Megan Mullally, and Seann William Scott. The A.V. Club will recap the show weekly.




Dope Thief (Apple TV+, Friday, 12:01 a.m.)



Adapted from a book of the same name, Dope Thief stars Brian Tyree Henry and Wagner Moura as best friends who get caught up in a large-scale narcotics operation while pretending to be DEA agents. The ensemble includes Kate Mulgrew, Marin Ireland, Ving Rhames, and Amir Arison. Ridley Scott directs the pilot. Check out The A.V. Club‘s review on the site.

Oh My God…Yes! A Series Of Extremely Related Circumstances (Adult Swim, Monday, 12:15 a.m.)



Set in the 30th century, this animated co*edy centers on three Black women in Los Angeles with co*plicated se* and dating lives. The show is created by Emmy-winning writer Adele “Supreme” Williams, and is loosely based on her book.




Everybody’s Live With John Mulaney (Netflix, Wednesday, 10 p.m.)



After John Mulaney’s six-episode L.A.-set talk show last year, he lands a late-night series on Netflix. Everybody’s Live airs weekly for the next three months, and features Mulaney in different cities talking to celebrities,  co*edians, and other artists.




Adolescence (Netflix, Thursday, 3:01 a.m.)



Each of the four episodes of the gritty drama Adolescence is filmed in one continuous shot. In it, Stephen Graham plays a father who sets out to prove his 13-year-old son (Owen Cooper) did not co*mit the murder he has been accused of. Ashley Walters, Erin Doherty, and Faye Marsay co-star.




Long Bright River (Peacock, Thursday, 3:01 a.m.)



Amanda Seyfried gets a Mare Of Easttown-esque cop thriller with Long Bright River. In the eight installments, she suits up as a Philadelphia officer determined to solve several murders in a poverty-stricken, opioid crisis-hit neighborhood. The cast includes Ashleigh Cummings, Nicholas Pinnock, John Doman, Britne Olford, and Harriet Sansom Harris. The A.V. Club‘s review will be up this week.
