NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK

Areas affected...Western Dakotas

Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 280...

Valid 272346Z - 280145Z

The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 280
continues.

SUMMARY...Severe wind gusts remain possible with convection this
evening, along with some threat for hail.

DISCUSSION...Water-vapor imagery currently depicts a notable
mid-level short-wave trough over eastern MT/WY, flattening the
northern High Plains upper ridge. This feature appears to be partly
responsible for scattered high-based convection that has developed
across the northern/central High Plains early this evening. While
moisture remains scant, with low PW values, most of this convection
is likely producing gusty winds, some likely in excess of 50kt.
Surface front should also aid convective coverage as it surges
southeast across ww280.
