Mesoscale Discussion 0772
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0257 PM CDT Sun May 15 2022

Areas affected...North-Central/Northeast OK

Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 217...

Valid 151957Z - 152100Z

The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 217
continues.

SUMMARY...Additional thunderstorm development may occur across
north-central and northeast OK. Some storms could produce strong
wind gusts and/or hail, and trends are being monitored for
additional watch issuance.

DISCUSSION...Visible satellite imagery depicts a well-defined
outflow boundary extending from near END eastward through TQH.
Convection has recently deepened over Adair County OK with deepening
cumulus noted west into Creek and Tulsa Counties as well. Low to
mid-level temperatures are quite warm across the region, as sampled
by the 18Z OUN sounding. However, continued heating and modest
convergence along this outflow could reduce convective inhibition
enough to foster additional thunderstorm development. With a
strongly unstable air mass in place, any storms that do develop
should have robust updrafts capable of damaging wind gusts and
isolated hail. While there is some question regarding storm
coverage, trends are being monitored for additional watch issuance
across north-central and northeast OK.
