MD 0768 Image

Mesoscale Discussion 0768
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0147 PM CDT Sun May 15 2022

Areas affected...Eastern Florida Coast

Concerning...Severe potential...Watch unlikely

Valid 151847Z - 152015Z

Probability of Watch Issuance...5 percent

SUMMARY...Small to marginally severe hail and isolated wind damage
will be possible this afternoon. No watch is expected.

DISCUSSION...A cluster of storms has developed along the sea breeze
boundary in east-central Florida. Modest cyclonic flow aloft over
the Gulf has contributed to 20-30 kts of effective shear in
central/southern Florida. 12Z observed soundings across the state
sampled around -10C temperatures at 500 mb. A couple of marginal
supercell structures were apparent on KMLB radar/velocity imagery
within the last hour. As those cells continue to form along the
slowly westward-propagating sea breeze boundary, the environment
will likely support small to marginally severe hail as well as
isolated wind damage.
