Day 1 Convective Outlook
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0800 PM CDT Wed May 04 2022

Valid 050100Z - 051200Z

...THERE IS A MODERATE RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS FOR PARTS OF
SOUTHERN/CENTRAL OKLAHOMA AND NORTH TEXAS...

...SUMMARY...
Numerous severe thunderstorms are expected across parts of the
southern Great Plains tonight. A few tornadoes and very large hail
are most probable across parts of central and southwest Oklahoma
into north Texas this evening. Wind damage as well as tornadoes will
remain possible across the remainder of central and eastern Oklahoma
overnight.

...Southern Plains...
Multiple supercells are ongoing this evening along/east of a dryline
across parts of west TX, and near a stationary surface boundary
across parts of central OK. Storm coverage is expected to increase
this evening, as a southerly low-level jet increases and a
mid/upper-level shortwave trough approaches the region from the
west.

The environment will remain quite favorable for organized convection
this evening into late tonight, with MLCAPE of 1500-3000 J/kg in
place across the warm sector and effective shear of 45-60 kt. 0-1 km
SRH of 200-300 m2/s2 will continue to support a tornado threat
(potentially strong), especially with any sustained discrete
supercells near and south of the effective surface boundary.

Ongoing supercells approaching parts of southwest OK and western
north TX will continue to pose a threat of tornadoes and very large
hail this evening. Renewed convective development near the surface
boundary may evolve into one or more supercells across central and
southern OK, which could also pose a threat of very large hail and
tornadoes. Upscale growth into one or more eastward-moving clusters
is possible with time, which could lead to increase in the damaging
wind potential later tonight into central/eastern OK.

...Eastern NC and vicinity...
Thunderstorms have been gradually decreasing in coverage and
intensity this evening, but the ongoing storms across eastern NC may
pose a continued threat for isolated hail and damaging wind gusts
until around 02-03Z.
