[html]MD 1799 CONCERNING SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 537... FOR CENTRAL IL
Mesoscale Discussion 1799
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0158 AM CDT Mon Sep 19 2022
Areas affected...central IL
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 537...
Valid 190658Z - 190830Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 537
continues.
SUMMARY...A threat for hail and gusty winds will continue the next
1-2 hours. Overall severe threat is expected to gradually diminish
through 09z/4am CDT.
DISCUSSION...Thunderstorm clusters across central IL have produced
1-2 inch diameter hail and damaging gusts over the past 1-2 hours as
convection became better organized in the vicinity of a 30 kt
west/southwesterly low-level jet. In the last 15 minutes or so,
radar trends have indicated weakening updrafts with decreasing MRMS
MESH as this activity shifts east/southeast into increasing MLCINH.
Storms may continue to pose a marginal severe hail and strong gust
threat over the next hour or so, but the gradual weakening trend is
expected to continue through the 09z expiration time for WW 537. An
additional downstream watch is not expected.
