Day 2 Fire Weather Outlook
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0159 AM CDT Fri Sep 09 2022
Valid 101200Z - 111200Z
...Synopsis...
A midlevel trough will continue eastward across parts of the Upper
MS Valley, while a large-scale ridge builds over the Intermountain
West. At the surface, high pressure will continue to strengthen and
expand southward along the northern and central Rockies, while a
closed surface low persists off the Oregon coast.
...Northwest...
At the start of the Day 2 period, a tight surface pressure gradient
will persist between the high pressure over the northern/central
Rockies and surface low off the Oregon coast. This will result in a
continuation of breezy easterly surface winds near 15-20 mph along
and west of the Cascades, with the strongest winds expected through
the Cascade gaps. The breezy surface winds co*bined with 15-20
percent RH will lead to elevated fire-weather conditions (especially
early in the period). During the afternoon hours, the pressure
gradient is forecast to gradually weaken across the region, with an
associated decrease in sustained surface winds.
