Areas affected...eastern Nebraska into western Iowa

Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 140...

Valid 220653Z - 220930Z

The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 140
continues.

SUMMARY...Storms may produce severe hail and perhaps isolated strong
wind gusts as they develop east/northeast from Nebraska into western
Iowa. Additional watches are not anticipated for this activity.

DISCUSSION...A cluster of storms persists north of the Grand Island
area, with additional activity traveling quickly eastward near the
NE/IA border. Strong elevated instability remains over the region,
with lift aided by a 50 kt low-level jet. With time, these winds
will veer, which will shift lift and destabilization into western
IA. Given the cool boundary-layer temperatures, especially east and
north of the existing watch, marginal hail should be the primary
severe risk. Isolated strong wind gusts may also occur with the
larger clusters of cells where downdrafts may be maximized. While
isolated severe hail cannot be ruled out later tonight downstream of
WW 140, the areal extent of potential appears too small for an
additional watch at this time.
