Day 2 Fire Weather Outlook
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
1218 AM CDT Sat Aug 20 2022
Valid 211200Z - 221200Z
...Synopsis...
A mid-upper-level trough will continue to move east slowly across
the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley and the western ridge will continue
to build north into southwest Canada and east into the northern
Great Plains. Similar to Day 1 (Saturday), much of the contiguous
United States will be seasonably cool, moist, or both.
Isolated dry thunderstorms will be possible late Sunday night into
Monday morning across portions of the Interior Pacific Northwest as
large-scale ascent increases along the northwest fringe of a North
American monsoon driven moist plume across the West. This increasing
large-scale ascent is in response to an approaching negatively
tilted, mid-upper-level trough. The exact location of greatest
lightning potential will likely evolve over the next few forecast
cycles as smaller-scale details regarding the juxtaposition of
moisture and ascent co*e into better focus.
Elsewhere, minimal large-scale fire weather concerns are
anticipated.
