Day 2 Fire Weather Outlook
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0155 AM CDT Fri Aug 12 2022
Valid 131200Z - 141200Z
...NO CRITICAL AREAS...
...Synopsis...
Similar to Day 1, upper ridging will persist across the central
CONUS, with mainly weak mid-level impulses pivoting around the upper
ridge. Given overall weak forcing across the U.S., the threat for
widespread significant wildfire spread appears relatively low,
though some localized concerns exist. Modest mid-level flow
overspreading a dry boundary layer across the northwest U.S. may
support locally Elevated conditions in terrain-favoring areas with
dry fuels. Monsoonal moisture will continue to support the
initiation of scattered to potentially numerous thunderstorms across
the Intermountain West. While mainly wet storms are likely,
occasional strikes away from precipitation cores into dry fuel beds
should be expected. Lastly, modest lee troughing of the Plains may
promote a couple instances of locally Elevated surface conditions
atop dry fuels, mainly during the mid afternoon hours.
