Day 2 Fire Weather Outlook
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0207 PM CDT Mon Aug 08 2022

Valid 091200Z - 101200Z

The forecast remains on track with some expansion made into southern
WA and western ID. Forecast soundings across these regions show
thermodynamic profiles supportive of dry thunderstorms Tuesday
evening/overnight. Poor QPF signals in ensemble guidance further
suggest a dry-lightning threat. See the previous discussion for
additional details.

...Northern California...
Localized elevated to critical wind/RH conditions are possible
Tuesday afternoon through the valleys of northern CA. Hi-res
deterministic solutions hint corridors of terrain-enhanced winds
near 15-20 mph with gusts above 30 mph. RH reductions to 20-30% are
probable, and may fall as low as 15% for some locations. However,
this potential remains too spatially limited to warrant a broader
risk area.

.PREV DISCUSSION... /ISSUED 0154 AM CDT Mon Aug 08 2022/

...Synopsis...
Upper ridging will continue across the Interior West, with an upper
low impinging on the West Coast tomorrow/Tuesday. A belt of stronger
southerly 500 mb flow will immediately precede the upper low along
the southern Cascades as 1+ inch precipitable water values rapidly
transport northwestward into the Pacific Northwest. Ample deep-layer
ascent and associated stronger flow aloft will encourage the
development of scattered to possibly numerous fast-moving
thunderstorms across much of central and eastern Oregon during the
late afternoon and evening hours. While the storms are expected to
be more wet than dry, the abundant nature of the storms (and
associated chance of strikes peripheral to storm cores in dry fuel
beds), along with potentially several 25-40 kt gusts, warrant the
introduction of isolated dry thunderstorm highlights.
