...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR PORTIONS OF CENTRAL INTO EASTERN
MONTANA...

Trimmed the northeastern portion of the IsoDryT area across western
Montana and northwest Wyoming as the upper level trough has co*e in
slower and more retrograded. As a result, thunderstorms are not
likely as far east. Otherwise, the only change was to expand the
elevated area across eastern Wyoming and western South Dakota to the
far northwest Nebraska Panhandle. Winds of 15 to 20 mph are expected
in this area with single digit relative humidity.

...Synopsis...
The upper ridge across the western CONUS is expected to flatten some
as more pronounced mid-level troughs are expected to crest the
ridge. Strong mid-level flow will overspread the northwestern U.S.
during the afternoon, promoting dry and windy conditions from the
Pacific Northwest into the northern High Plains. Downslope flow
along the lee of the northern Cascades will promote at least
Elevated conditions along the higher terrain into the Columbia Basin
during the afternoon hours. However, more widespread Elevated and
even low-end Critical conditions are likely across much of central
and eastern Montana for much of the afternoon and evening, where
fuels have recently beco*e highly receptive to wildfire spread.

Meanwhile, the modest forcing for ascent acco*panying the passing
mid-level impulses will aid in lifting mid-level moisture/modestly
buoyant air to support isolated to widely scattered high-based
thunderstorm development across the Pacific Northwest into the Rocky
Mountains tomorrow/Monday afternoon. Since at least a few of these
storms are expected to be dry, and given modestly to highly
receptive fuel beds, isolated dry thunderstorm highlights were
introduced.
