Day 1 Convective Outlook
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0736 PM CDT Mon May 09 2022

Valid 100100Z - 101200Z

...THERE IS AN ENHANCED RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS OVER EXTREME
SOUTHEAST MINNESOTA INTO SOUTHWESTERN WISCONSIN...

...SUMMARY...
Large hail, damaging gusts, and a few tornadoes remain possible over
the upper Mississippi Valley region this evening.

...01z Update...

Mid-level short-wave trough is ejecting northeast across the
northern Plains as 500mb speed max translates across the Dakotas
into northwestern MN/western ON late this evening. Heights will
begin to rise in the wake of this feature which should result in a
slow-moving surface front/dryline trailing across IA into southeast
NE. Over the last hour or so, convection has gradually deepened
along the boundary near the MN/IA border and towers are building
ahead of the wind shift into central IA. It appears organized
convection, along with the threat for severe, will spread/develop
south where steep lapse rates and ample buoyancy currently reside.

Otherwise, severe threat is waning quickly with frontal passage over
MN as evident by 00z sounding from MPX which has veered through a
deep layer. Pre-frontal cluster of supercells that are spreading
across the eastern portions of ww194 will continue moving east
across western WI this evening, along with an attendant threat for
hail, wind, and perhaps a few tornadoes.
