The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of
  Southwest Iowa
  Northeast Kansas
  Extreme northwest Missouri
  Southeast Nebraska

* Effective this Saturday afternoon from 545 PM until Midnight
  CDT.

* Primary threats include...
  Scattered large hail and isolated very large hail events to 2.5
    inches in diameter possible
  Scattered damaging wind gusts to 70 mph possible
  A tornado or two possible

SUMMARY...Thunderstorm development is expected soon from northeast
Kansas into southeast Nebraska, in an environment favorable for
supercells with isolated very large hail (2 to 2.5 inches in
diameter).  There will be some threat for damaging winds of 60 to 70
mph with the more high-based storms in Kansas initially, and as
storms merge and grow upscale into clusters.  An isolated tornado or
two may occur with any storms interacting with the modifying outflow
boundary near the Missouri River in southeast Nebraska and adjacent
areas.

The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 60
statute miles east and west of a line from 35 miles south southeast
of Salina KS to 35 miles northwest of Shenandoah IA. For a co*plete

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

REMEMBER...A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are
favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area.
Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening
weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible
warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce
tornadoes.

AVIATION...A few severe thunderstorms with hail surface and aloft to
2.5 inches. Extreme turbulence and surface wind gusts to 60 knots. A
few cumulonimbi with maximum tops to 550. Mean storm motion vector
26020.
