Day 2 Fire Weather Outlook
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0141 AM CDT Thu Sep 08 2022
Valid 091200Z - 101200Z
...Synopsis...
The upper trough over the Pacific Northwest is forecast to shift
eastward and deepen over the northern US through D2/Friday while
high pressure is flattened over the Southwest. At the surface, a
trailing cold front will continue south across the Rockies and
Northwest, bringing easterly flow in its wake. East to west pressure
gradients are forecast to increase as the remnants of Hurricane Kay
undergo extratropical transition, bolstering western US troughing
into the weekend.
...Pacific Northwest...
On the western flank of the departing upper trough, easterly flow
will spil* over the Cascades toward the Pacific Coast across WA and
OR. Enhanced by the development of a surface trough and thermal
ridge along the coast, 15-20 mph northeasterly surface winds appear
likely, along with a few higher gusts through terrain gaps. The
strong winds should continue overnight D2/Friday and through early
D3/Saturday. Behind the surface cold front, temperatures are
forecast to moderate, but remain warm enough to support only modest
humidity recoveries overnight. Along with downsloping, diurnal RH
values below 30% are possible. The co*bination of gusty winds and
lower humidity values should support widespread elevated to near
critical fire weather conditions.
