Mesoscale Discussion 1689
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0151 PM CDT Wed Aug 17 2022

Areas affected...Northeast Texas into central Louisiana

Concerning...Severe potential...Watch unlikely

Valid 171851Z - 172045Z

Probability of Watch Issuance...5 percent

SUMMARY...A couple strong to near severe wind gusts are possible
this afternoon. A watch is not expected.

DISCUSSION...Thunderstorms are developing within parts of the
northern Sabine Valley. At 1814Z, a weak thunderstorm core collapsed
over the TYR ASOS site and produced a 39 kt wind gust. With
temperatures rising into the mid 90s to near 100 F south of the wind
shift, a couple more strong to near severe (mostly 35-45 kts) wind
gusts are possible as storms mature and collapse. Storm organization
will be rather weak, which can be seen on KSHV radar with the amount
of outflow produced by the nearby convection. A watch is not
expected this afternoon.
