Day 2 Fire Weather Outlook
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0225 PM CDT Wed Aug 17 2022

Valid 181200Z - 191200Z

...Northwest and northern Great Basin...
Overnight thunderstorms across OR and CA should continue through the
morning reaching as far north as the WA Cascades. While coverage
should decrease with northward extent, dry inverted-v profiles below
the buoyancy will support mostly dry storms with a risk for
lightning ignitions. Moisture will gradually shift eastward with the
most favored corridor for thunderstorms along the eastern side of
the higher terrain. The IsoDryT are was expanded northward to cover
the risk for lightning within dry fuels.

Additionally, confidence has increased on the potential for dry
thunderstorms across portions of southwestern ID Thursday. Ahead of
the deeper moisture, high-based storms may reach isolated coverage
atop increasingly dry fuels. With recent fire activity on the rise,
lightning ignitions appear possible. The IsoDryT area was expanded
northeastward into southwestern ID. Please see the previous
discussion for more information.

.PREV DISCUSSION... /ISSUED 0151 AM CDT Wed Aug 17 2022/

...Synopsis...
Though weaker co*pared to previous days, upper ridging will
persevere across the Intermountain West tomorrow/Thursday as a
mid-level trough overspreads the northern U.S. Ahead of the upper
trough, a cold front will continue to sag southward, with locally
Elevated dry/breezy conditions acco*panying the immediate post-cold
frontal environment over the central High Plains, mainly during the
afternoon hours. However, the greater concern is for dry
thunderstorms tomorrow across the Pacific Northwest. Monsoonal
moisture will continue to overspread the southern Cascades region,
with enough upper support over the region to foster isolated
high-based thunderstorm development by evening. Similar to Day 1,
isolated dry thunderstorm highlights have been added given the
presence of very dry fuel beds.
