Karla Sofía Gascón dubs self "less racist than Gandhi"
[html]The Emilia Pérez star now says that no one has to forgive her for anything.

When it co*es to making a public apology, offering contrition and then stepping out of the spotlight for a little bit tends to be the best option. For Karla Sofía Gascón, this wasn’t co*pletely possible, given that she was in the midst of an Oscar campaign for Best Actress when her racist tweets were unearthed. After Emilia Pérez director Jacques Audiard publicly asked her to stop making it worse, she relented for the rest of the campaign. But now the campaign is over, and Gascón can say whatever she wants without damaging the awards chances of the rest of the Emilia Pérez cast and crew.
And what she wants to say is that she is “less racist than Gandhi” and the victim of some kind of campaign that harmed her reputation. “It’s clear that there was a campaign against me and that they kept going until they got what they were after,” Gascón said, according to The Guardian. This isn’t the first time she has suggested that there was an organized campaign against her, though it seems to be the first time she’s said “No one has to forgive me for anything. If anyone feels offended by things I may have done in my life, let them co*e and tell me.”
“They’ve said that I’m far-right or racist or whatever,” she added, as reported by Spanish outlet El Mundo (and translated by The Guardian). “But if there’s one thing I’ve done all my life, it’s that I’ve been against all this. When I was young, I used to fight with skinheads … When someone co*es up to me and I ask them: ‘But what is it about me that offends you?’, no one can co*e up with anything or tell me anything.”
Though it’s a little hard to believe that no one can offer any evidence of what has offended them given, well, the evidence, the continued grandstanding just seems unnecessary. Granted, she was appearing before journalists who could ask any questions they wanted, but Netflix boss Ted Sarandos already signaled earlier this week that he would be open to working with Gascón again. Whatever “campaign” may have existed doesn’t seem to have destroyed her career.
