Day 2 Fire Weather Outlook
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0119 PM CST Tue Nov 26 2024

Valid 271200Z - 281200Z

...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

...19z Update...
A few hours of locally elevated fire-weather conditions are possible
across parts of West TX and southeastern NM Wednesday. Gusty
downslope winds are likely behind a lee low and cold front moving
through the Plains. While meteorological conditions do support some
fire-weather threat, area fuels are not overly favorable. In
addition, the cold front will rapidly approach later in the
afternoon with a cooler and much less favorable air mass. Thus, any
fire-weather concerns that do develop will likely be limited in
duration and coverage. See the prior discussion for more info.

.PREV DISCUSSION... /ISSUED 1159 PM CST Mon Nov 25 2024/

...Synopsis...
A broad mid-level trough will deepen slightly across the central
CONUS, encouraging a surface low to traverse the Lower Mississippi
Valley as a cold front sweeps across the central and southern CONUS
tomorrow (Wednesday). Appreciable precipitation accumulations may
precede the surface low/mid-level trough, with cold temperatures
behind the cold front enveloping the Interior West and Plains
states. The net result will be quiescent fire weather conditions
over most the U.S. One small exception may be western Texas, where
dry and breezy conditions may acco*pany downslope flow. Still, fuels
in this region are marginally receptive, so fire weather spread
potential should remain brief and localized at best.
