Day 2 Fire Weather Outlook
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0202 AM CDT Fri Jul 22 2022
Valid 231200Z - 241200Z
...NO CRITICAL AREAS...
...Synopsis...
Broad midlevel troughing will persist over the western CONUS, while
an embedded shortwave trough and attendant cold front overspread the
northern/central Plains during the afternoon/evening hours.
...Central/Southern Plains...
Ahead of the approaching cold front, southerly surface winds will
strengthen across the central/southern Plains, where 15-20 percent
RH is expected during the afternoon. Given continued drying of fuels
across the area, locally elevated fire-weather conditions will be
possible. Similar conditions are expected behind the cold front
across the central Plains, where breezy northerly surface winds will
overspread low RH. However, precipitation along/ahead of the cold
front casts uncertainty on the overall fire-weather threat,
precluding highlights at this time.
...Great Basin...
Continued warm/dry conditions are forecast across the Great Basin,
and locally elevated conditions will be possible over primarily
terrain-favored areas. With that said, the lack of a tighter surface
pressure gradient and stronger flow aloft limits confidence in
large-fire potential.
