Severe Thunderstorm Watch Number 448

The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of
  Western and central Montana

* Effective this Friday afternoon and evening from 310 PM until
  1000 PM MDT.

* Primary threats include...
  Scattered damaging winds and isolated significant gusts to 75
    mph possible
  Scattered large hail and isolated very large hail events to 2.5
    inches in diameter possible

SUMMARY...Scattered severe storms are expected to form over and
immediately northeast of the higher terrain close to the
Montana/Idaho border, and the storms will subsequently spread
east-northeastward through late evening.  A mix of supercells and
clusters is expected, with isolated very large hail up to 2.5 inches
in diameter possible with the supercells, and isolated significant
wind gusts up to 75 mph will be possible with any organized clusters
this evening toward central Montana.

The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 85
statute miles north and south of a line from 65 miles north
northwest of Salmon ID to 45 miles east southeast of Havre MT. For a

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

REMEMBER...A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are
favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area.
Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening
weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible
warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce
tornadoes.

AVIATION...A few severe thunderstorms with hail surface and aloft to
2.5 inches. Extreme turbulence and surface wind gusts to 65 knots. A
few cumulonimbi with maximum tops to 500. Mean storm motion vector
24035.
