...THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS PORTIONS OF
VIRGINIA AND THE CAROLINAS...THE CENTRAL HIGH PLAINS...AND MONTANA
INTO THE NORTHERN HIGH PLAINS...

...SUMMARY...
Scattered severe thunderstorms remain possible across parts of the
northern High Plains/Rockies, central High Plains, and from Virginia
into the Carolinas.

...01z Update...

Back edge of a weak short-wave trough appears to be digging
southeast across eastern KY/WV early this evening. Scattered
convection has been noted ahead of this feature much of the day and
the greatest concentration of robust updrafts are now primarily in
the lee of the higher terrain from southern VA into the Carolinas.
Greatest reservoir of buoyancy currently extends across the coastal
Carolinas and this will likely be the primary corridor for strong
convection over the next several hours within a flow regime that
will encourage storms to move toward the coast.

Upstream across the central Plains, weak short-wave trough has
shifted east of the Front Range and will likely aid eastward
propagation of strong/severe convection across the High Plains
toward northwest KS later this evening. With LLJ expected to
increase after sunset from the TX Panhandle into northern KS this
should aid convection into the central Plains well into the
overnight hours.

Numerous thunderstorms have also developed across much of central
into eastern MT where ample buoyancy resides within an easterly
low-level flow regime beneath the weakened upper ridge. As LLJ
strengthens over eastern MT this evening it appears this activity
should progress across the High Plains of eastern MT where large
hail/wind remain possible.
