Mesoscale Discussion 1262
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0654 PM CDT Wed Jun 22 2022

Areas affected...Southern Virginia...North-central North Carolina

Concerning...Severe potential...Watch unlikely

Valid 222354Z - 230200Z

Probability of Watch Issuance...20 percent

SUMMARY...A wind-damage and hail threat may persist as cells move to
the south of WW 401 over the next couple of hours. The threat is
expected to be too marginal for new watch issuance.

DISCUSSION...The latest high-resolution radar imagery from
Wakefield, Virginia shows a small cluster of strong to severe
thunderstorms over south-central Virginia. This convection is moving
southward and will approach the southern edge of WW 401 over the
next hour. As the storms move southward into north-central North
Carolina, a severe threat is expected to develop. Although wind
damage and hail will be possible with these storms, instability is
weaker with southward extent, suggesting the severe threat will
beco*e increasingly isolated and marginal over time.
