The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a

* Tornado Watch for portions of 
  New York
  Pennsylvania
  Lake Erie
  Lake Ontario

* Effective this Thursday afternoon and evening from 245 PM until
  1100 PM EDT.

* Primary threats include...
  A couple tornadoes possible
  Widespread damaging wind gusts to 70 mph likely
  Scattered large hail and isolated very large hail events to 2
    inches in diameter possible

SUMMARY...Severe thunderstorms will steadily develop across the
region, including near a cold front and over the mountains and
front-preceding boundary. Strong deep-layer winds and ample
moisture/instability will support the possibility of supercells
capable of large hail and possibly a few tornadoes. Damaging wind
potential will also be appreciable and is likely to increase
regionally by the late afternoon hours as storms spread
east-southeastward.

The tornado watch area is approximately along and 90 statute miles
east and west of a line from 50 miles north northwest of Watertown
NY to 40 miles south southeast of Altoona PA. For a co*plete

REMEMBER...A Tornado Watch means conditions are favorable for
tornadoes and severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch
area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for
threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements
and possible warnings.
