Mesoscale Discussion 0971
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0221 AM CDT Mon May 30 2022

Areas affected...Southeast SD...Southwest MN...Northwest IA

Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 290...

Valid 300721Z - 300845Z

The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 290
continues.

SUMMARY...The threat for strong to severe gusts from the ongoing
convective line will continue downstream into far northwest IA and
southwest MN.

DISCUSSION...An organized convective line continues to move
northeastward across far southeast SD. Recent storm motion was
estimated around 50 kt, bringing the apex of the line to near OTG
around 08Z and near ULM around 09Z. Severe wind gusts of 52 kt and
59 kt were recently measured at FSD and MDS, respectively, and the
KFSD radar continues to show strong outbound velocities. Strong
buoyancy exists downstream, and the expectation is that this
organized convective line will continue to produce severe wind gusts
as it progresses northeastward over the next few hours.
