NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0905 PM CDT Mon May 09 2022

Areas affected...Portions of northeast Iowa into extreme southwest
Wisconsin

Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 195...

Valid 100205Z - 100330Z

The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 195
continues.

SUMMARY...The severe threat continues across Severe Thunderstorm
Watch #195. Large hail is expected to remain the primary threat,
though a damaging gust or two remains possible over the next couple
of hours.

DISCUSSION...Multicellular storm clusters have increased in both
coverage and intensity across portions of central into northeast
Iowa as the cold front merges with the dryline, resulting in
enhanced low-level convergence. Ample buoyancy remains in place,
with the 01Z mesoanalysis depicting 2000-3000 J/kg MLCAPE in eastern
IA. These high CAPE values are driven by a well heated/mixed
boundary layer, with temperatures still over 80F amid upper 60s F
dewpoints. Large hail may acco*pany the more persistent updrafts, as
observed over Mitchell County, IA in the past hour. As long as the
boundary layer remains warm/mixed, a couple of damaging gusts may
also occur with the stronger storm cores before boundary-layer
decoupling sets in over the next few hours.
