Areas affected...portions southern Texas
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 179...
Valid 050345Z - 050515Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 179
continues.
SUMMARY...Risk for large hail and damaging winds continues over
portions of southern Texas.
DISCUSSION...Latest radar loop shows a cluster of strong/severe
convection just west of the Hondo, TX vicinity at this time -- i.e.
crossing portions of WW 179. The strongest storms are ongoing over
northwestern Medina County, and northern Zavala/far southern Uvalde
Counties at this time. The Medina county convection is particularly
well-organized, and has exhibited small-scale bowing with dual
book-end vortices within recent radar imagery -- suggestive of
damaging wind potential.
An axis of 2000 J/kg mixed-layer CAPE resides across the area at
this time, and with southeasterly low-level winds veering to
southwesterly aloft, shear favors both storm organization as well as
a continued east-northeasterly advance, that will allow the
convection -- and acco*panying severe risk -- to approach the San
Antonio metro area over the next 1 to 1 1/2 hours.
