NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK

Areas affected...much of Iowa...northern Missouri

Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 521...

Valid 192236Z - 200030Z

The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 521
continues.

SUMMARY...Scattered storms may continue to pose a hail and localized
damaging-wind threat. Isolated severe storms could impact areas just
east of WW 521 later this evening.

DISCUSSION...Radar shows numerous storms and associated outflow
boundaries across much of IA, ahead of the primary front which
extends from southeast MN into eastern NE. Both right and
left-moving cells have been noted with periodic severe hail cores
and strong wind gusts. Recently, new activity has developed ahead of
the central-IA outflow, and additional severe storms may thus
affects parts of eastern IA, and perhaps cross the MS River later
this evening. Objective analysis shows an MLCAPE maximum over
eastern IA. Therefore, despite rampant outflow boundary production
and loss of heating, temperatures aloft remain cool and may support
at least isolated severe cells east of WW 521. A new watch is not
currently anticipated.
