The se* Lives Of College Girls has been canceled after three seasons, according to Deadline. The show, co-created by Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble, followed four young women who were randomly assigned as roommates at the fictional Esse* College. Pauline Chalamet, Amrit Kaur, Alyah Chanelle Scott, and Reneé Rapp starred as the titular girls; Rapp, who also has a budding music career, left the show in the third season and was replaced by Gracie Lawrence, who also has a budding music career. Deadline reports that Warner Bros. Television has been shopping the show around for a new home, including at Netflix, where Kaling has two other successful projects. However, Netflix is “believed to be a long-shot,” per the outlet.

“As creatives, we’re sort of taught to never co*pliment our own projects. Or even downplay it when other people do. But here’s the thing: I think The se* Lives Of College Girls is a pretty damn good TV show. Unfortunately, Max has decided not to order a fourth season. We are currently in discussions with some new potential homes for the show, and it’s nice that there is so much interest—but regardless of what happens, I’m so proud of this show and the work that so many incredibly talented people put into it,” Noble wrote in a statement posted to social media. He continued, “I want to of course thank Mindy for creating this loud and fun world with me and trusting me with it, WB and Max for believing in us when we thought this show would resonate, our wildly talented cast, our amazingly funny writers, and our kind and caring and hard-working crew, who put so much of themselves into this show. (Someone hire these people! Keep them paid!)”

The se* Lives Of College Girls gained a devoted following over the course of its run. But the third season was more uneven and less well received than the first two. Nevertheless, Noble noted that the show was “listed as the most watched or second most watched scripted show on the entire platform, for about 70 straight days,” so the cancellation was “not the outco*e I saw co*ing.”

“No matter what happens, The se* Lives Of College Girls has three seasons that showcased incredible performances and told so many important stories while also managing to fill those stories with laughs. In a world of ‘content’, it’s a show that strived to make sure it entertained—and I feel that we did that,” he wrote. “I can’t help but mention that it feels like there are fewer and fewer co*edy series every month—we are living in an era where we need that co*edy badly, so I really hope that turns around— but I will always be proud of this show for being the thing that we weren’t seeing enough of: a hard co*edy ensemble where ladies get the jokes. And most of all, thank you to the fans. We really did do it all for you.”
