Day 1 Convective Outlook
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
1244 AM CDT Sat Aug 06 2022

Valid 061200Z - 071200Z

...THERE IS A MARGINAL RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS FROM PARTS OF
CENTRAL NEBRASKA NORTHEASTWARD INTO CENTRAL WISCONSIN...

...SUMMARY...
Thunderstorms associated with marginally severe winds and hail will
be possible this afternoon and evening from parts of central
Nebraska northeastward into Wisconsin.

...Central Plains/Mid Missouri and Upper Mississippi Valleys...
Today, a large area of high heights will be located from the
southern High Plains into mid Mississippi Valley. On the northern
periphery of the anticyclone, a belt of stronger mid-level flow will
be located from the northern Plains into the upper Mississippi
Valley. At the surface, a cold front will advance southeastward into
the central Plains and upper Mississippi Valley. Ahead of the front,
surface dewpoints from central Nebraska to Wisconsin will range from
the mid 60s to the lower 70s F. As surface temperatures warm today,
the rich low-level moisture will contribute to moderate instability
by afternoon. MLCAPE is forecast to increase in the 2000 to 3500
J/kg range just ahead of the front. This, co*bined with increasing
low-level convergence near the front, will result in scattered
thunderstorm development during the late afternoon. Steep low level
lapse rates and 0-6 km shear near 30 knots should support a marginal
wind-damage threat. Hail will also be possible with storms that form
within the strongest instability. The greatest threat should be
concentrated around 00Z when the co*bination of shear and
instability is forecast to beco*e maximized.
