Max rolled out the full trailer for one of its most-anticipated upco*ing shows at SXSW today: The second season of critically acclaimed video game adaptation The Last Of Us.

For those who’ve only experienced this story through the TV show, there’s more than enough to enjoy here: Glimpses at society rebuilding, the sight of an older Ellie (Bella Ramsey) running and gunning her way through the streets of a post-apocalyptic Seattle; genuinely jaw-dropping imagery like a body being lost to a fungal hell, or clickers dragging themselves out of the snow like so many ugly secrets emerging back into the light.

(And for those who’ve played the video game that serves as the source material for the season: Holy shit, huh? This definitely looks like it’s going to serve as a very faithful adaptation of at least the first half of The Last Of Us Part II, with all that that entails: That shot of the space capsule, especially, had our hearts in our throats.)

For either population, meanwhile, the trailer makes it clear: Despite all the hard-won domestic tranquility and happy moments that Ellie and Joel (Pedro Pascal) have scrabbled to get for themselves after their journey in season 1, peace is something that’s in very short supply after the world has already ended. For people and monsters alike, there are some very dark days ahead for The Last Of Us when the show returns on April 13.
