Areas affected...portions of central and eastern North
Carolina...parts of southern and eastern Virginia...and a portion of
southern Maryland

Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 480...

Valid 211953Z - 212200Z

The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 480
continues.

SUMMARY...Severe risk continues across portions of North Carolina
and Virginia and vicinity, within WW 480.

DISCUSSION...Latest radar loop shows a cluster of vigorous
convection, associated with a remnant MCV, progressing
east-northeastward across north-central North Carolina.  Meanwhile,
more storms are increasing in coverage northeastward across eastern
Virginia and into southern Maryland, in the vicinity of a
north-south surface convergence zone.

An axis of very unstable air (2500 to 3500 J/kg mixed-layer CAPE)
exists across eastern portions of WW 480, per recent RAP-based
objective analysis.  This, co*bined with moderate west-southwesterly
flow aloft, suggests that locally vigorous storms, and associated
risk for damaging wind gusts and and possibly marginal hail, will
continue over the next few hours.
