Day 1 Fire Weather Outlook
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0144 AM CDT Tue Aug 27 2024
Valid 271200Z - 281200Z
...Synopsis...
A mid-level trough will amplify while traversing the northwestern
U.S. today, encouraging strong surface lee troughing over the
northern Rockies. In turn, strong and dry downslope flow is
anticipated to the lee of the Cascades, where surface meteorological
conditions will be conducive to wildfire spread. By afternoon, 15-20
mph sustained westerly surface winds will coincide with 15-25
percent RH for at least a few hours in the Columbia Basin in eastern
Washington. Fuels experiencing these dry and windy meteorological
conditions will be modestly receptive to wildfire spread, warranting
Elevated highlights.
