The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a
* Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of
Central and Western South Dakota
* Effective this Friday afternoon and evening from 220 PM until
900 PM MDT.
* Primary threats include...
Scattered large hail and isolated very large hail events to 2.5
inches in diameter likely
Scattered damaging wind gusts to 70 mph likely
SUMMARY...Thunderstorms are beginning to develop across central and
western South Dakota, in a moderately moist and unstable air mass.
A few severe storms are expected through the evening, with large
hail and damaging wind gusts possible.
The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 85
statute miles north and south of a line from 70 miles north
northeast of Chamberlain SD to 45 miles west northwest of Rapid City

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
REMEMBER...A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are
favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area.
Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening
weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible
warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce
tornadoes.
