Amy Sherman-Palladino returns to Bunhead roots with the first trailer for Étoile

Trading her very stylish hats for her original bunhead state, Amy Sherman-Palladino, the Emmy-winning creator of Gilmore Girls, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and, yes, Bunheads, returns to Prime Video with a new ballet series: Étoile. The series, which Palladino co-created with her husband and frequent co-worker, Daniel Palladino, is more of a grand affair than her previous exploits on the stage. Backed by the streamer that brought the world Citadel, the series takes place in New York and Paris, where Charlotte Gainsbourg and Luke Kirby risk it all to save their studios by swapping the biggest stars, namely a dancer played by Lou de Laâge, of their respective ballet co*panies.

Étoile marks Sherman-Palladino’s first series for Prime Video since The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. However, while she got a Gilmore Girls revival off the ground at Netflix—despite the biggest, most successful streamer on Earth neglecting to pay residuals to Lauren Graham, who insists she was “paid in love”—the Bunheads co*munity has gone by the wayside. Though Sherman-Palladino said a decade ago that she would do a revival in “a heartbeat,” this might be the only opportunity for fans to see the creator assemble a plié sequence. There’s always another Change.org petition.

All eight episodes of Étoile premiere on April 24.
